Shipham Action Group for the Environment is involved in many environmental issues affecting the local community.  These include: litter, traffic speed, building insulation, 10:10, Freecycle, Fairtrade and a community allotment.  Everyone is welcome to contribute to the work of the group.

 The RNLI is largely a volunteer organisation.  Many thousands of people give their time, skill    and commitment so that the RNLI can achieve its purpose of saving lives at sea.

Active Living welcomes all over 50s at the Village Hall on alternate Fridays, from 10.30am.
It is partly funded and supported by Somerset County Council, and is run by local volunteers.
We are a drop-in centre, with speakers and entertainment, and occasionally Flexercise.  Fairtrade drinks (free top-ups) and biscuits are available for only 50p.  A two-course lunch is always served, which should be booked beforehand.  You will receive a warm welcome.

We have two senior teams entered in the Weston & District League, as well as an established Over 35s team playing in the Bristol Casual League.  The Weston & District teams play on a Saturday afternoon and the Veterans on a Sunday morning.  
We are always on the lookout for new players, especially those based in the village.

Shipham Youth Football Club caters for youngsters between 8 and 14 years old, with the emphasis on fun and inclusion with boys and girls of different ages and skills playing and learning together.  New faces are always welcome.  They meet on Wednesday evenings.

Classes cover a wide range of media and techniques, including: life drawing, portrait drawing,
still life, landscape and abstract painting.

The bell-ringers meet on Tuesday evenings from 7.30 to 9.00pm, in the belfry of St Leonard's Church.  We cater for any age over 12 years.  Sunday service ringing takes place on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Sundays of every month.  We have an outing every summer and enter local ringing competitions.  We are a small and friendly group and always welcome new members.

Our organic community allotment is situated at the back of the Village Hall.  Members work on the same plot and share its produce.  This is a new project, and everyone is welcome to join, able and non-able bodied alike.  We all have something to share, be it knowledge or the ability to dig.  The plan is to grow as many fruit and vegtables as we can, creating self sufficiency in Shipham.  Infomative talks, fun and social events are planned.

We ride out from the The Swan Inn (BS25 1QL) Rowberrow (Shipham near Cheddar) onto the Mendip at 8pm every Thursday throughout the year, whatever the weather. 
The night is rounded off with social banter and après drinks in The Swan.

Shipham Players is an amateur dramatics group formed in January 2006, prompted by the stage facilities at the newly built Shipham Village Hall.  We staged our first production, Shipham Showcase, seven weeks later.  Since then we have staged a number of very well-received productions.

We are a small and friendly group and we always welcome new members with whatever skills they can bring, onstage or behind the scenes.  Having fun and providing good entertainment is what Shipham Players is all about.  Do get in contact with us if you fancy giving your stage ambitions a whirl!

The History Society meets on the first Tuesday of the month (except July and August),
in the George Thiery Room at Shipham Village Hall, starting at 7.30pm.

Annual membership is a very reasonable £8, with £1 payable at each meeting attended.  Visitors are very welcome at any meeting for a small fee of £2, which includes not only a very interesting evening but a friendly crowd of members.

The Table Tennis Group meets on Tuesday nights in the Star Room of the Village Hall,
starting at 8.00pm.  We vary greatly in ages and abilities, but have enjoyable games and lots of fun.  It costs £1 per week to take part, and you will be most welcome.

The club meets on Thursdays every week in term-time, in the Star Room of the Village Hall, from 7.30 - 9.00pm, and caters for Year 8 upwards.  Indoor facilities include a pool table.  Outdoor activities for the summer include badminton, boules, frisbee and rounders.
A programme of activities for the autumn is being planned.  There are always two adults to supervise each session, and extra adult volunteers are needed.  If you are able to help occasionally that would be much appreciated.

The Somerset Singers are the local Choral Society in this area, with members from Shipham, Axbridge, Winscombe and other local villages.  We rehearse at the Sidcot Quaker Hall every Wednesday evening, and provide two choral concerts every year.
