Shipham Community Car Scheme

IMPORTANT NOTICE

The Car Scheme has not been running since the first lockdown,

but we are now able to offer a limited service.

THIS IS FOR GENUINE MEDICAL TRIPS ONLY

If you require a lift, please call Sue Hucker on 01934 844176.

When Sue receives a request she will:

1. Tell the caller that if they or any of their household show COVID 19 symptoms they must cancel the booking.

2. Tell the caller that they must - wash their hands, wear a mask, sit in

the back of the car and try to avoid touching anything in the car.

Drivers will repeat these requests to their passengers and may add any other precautions they wish to make.

who are otherwise unable to make essential journeys:

  • Visit to local GP, Dentist or Optician

  • Hospital appointment/admission/discharge

  • Shopping, bank, pensions, collecting prescriptions, hairdresser

  • Visiting relatives, or friends who are sick

  • Attending village clubs, societies or functions

Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.

The scheme will normally be available on weekdays between

9.00am (earliest pick-up time) and 5.00pm (latest return home).

Medical appointments outside these times will be accommodated.

Available to all residents of Shipham, Rowberrow and Star, the Shipham Community Car Scheme uses volunteer drivers to provide lifts for people

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  1. Phone the Coordinator - name and number below.

  2. If possible, phone between 8-9am or between 5-6pm.

  3. Bookings cannot be accepted by drivers.

  4. Give as much notice as possible, normally at least

  5. 2 days, but 3 days for Monday appointments.

  6. If the answer-phone is connected, leave your name

  7. and number.

  8. Tell the Coordinator if you need to use the Blue Parking Badge which is held by the scheme, or if you possess your own parking badge.

  9. The Coordinator will let you know whether a driver

  10. is available and what the charge will be.

  11. A volunteer driver will pick you up from your home

  12. at the time agreed, take you to your appointment

  13. and bring you back home.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Flat rate return fares

Single journeys within the village 50p

(If the driver has to return to pick up £1.00)

Axbridge, Cheddar, Churchill, Winscombe £3.00

Congresbury, Wrington, Yatton £5.00

Wedmore £6.00

Bristol Airport £7.00

Weston-super-Mare, Backwell £8.00

Burnham, Clevedon £9.00

Bristol City Hospitals including Hengrove

Shepton Mallet Hospital £12.00

Southmead or Bridgwater Hospital £15.00

Emerson's Green NHS Centre £19.00

Taunton, Musgrove Hospital £24.00

For other destinations, a charge of 40p per mile will be made.

Fares should be given to the driver at the start of the journey.

Car parking charges may be claimed from passengers.

The above fares are PER PERSON. Other than for medical appointments, if more than one passenger is carried, the driver

will return the excess fare to the scheme to help with expenses.
